CJK obtained a great settlement on behalf of the defendant in Biehn et al v. Gleason & Elfering et al (Cook County IL 2020). This case arose out of a highly publicized explosion at AB Specialty Silicone's plant in Waukegan Illinois on May 3, 2019. Seven Plaintiffs' cases were consolidated, three wrongful death and four catastrophic personal injury cases. Numerous Defendants were named and extensive discovery took place. CJK represented Gleason & Elfering, an HVAC contractor that performed work at the facility within the previous year of the explosion. CJK developed extensive knowledge of plant operations and chemical reactions involved in the silicone making process to effectively and knowledgably defend the claims against our client. Through the help of G&E's owner and a retained consultant, we effectively postured the case for an extremely favorable settlement, less than 1% of the total 28.5 million settlement amongst the remaining defendants.
